Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
Wow! Okay, how to write a review that isn't totally gushing? I'm not sure. Hmmmm... can I just say I LOVED this book? :D Yes, I really, and I mean REALLY, enjoyed this book. I'm a big fan of Kate Simses' narrating anyway, but right from the first sentence I was hooked. It was so intense... I couldn't stop listening. This may be my favorite audiobook so far. It was riveting, gripping, and extremely powerful. I was so engrossed right from the beginning, and the story never lagged. It was constant and enjoyable throughout.
Juliette's born with a curse... everyone she touches dies. For her whole life, everyone has been scared to be around her for fear of being touched. Even her own parents wanted nothing to do with her. She finds herself locked up for murder after trying to help a young boy, and in the process killing him. She's in a tiny cell, no one to talk to, look at, or touch.
Obeying my no-spoiler policy, there's not much more I can say about this story without giving too much away, other than it's simply amazing. Tahereh's writing is simply incredible. I'm so
