Rescued by a stranger.
Haunted by a secret
Sometimes, love isn’t easy…
He watched her, but never knew her. Until thanks to a chance encounter, he became her savior…
The attraction between them was undeniable. Yet the past he’d worked so hard to overcome, and the future she’d put so much faith in, threatened to tear them apart.
Only together could they fight the pain and guilt, face the truth—and find the unexpected power of love.
A groundbreaking novel in the New Adult genre, Easy faces one girl's struggle to regain the trust she's lost, find the inner strength to fight back against an attacker, and accept the peace she finds in the arms of a secretive boy.
Again, another book I should have read much sooner than I did. It was fabulous!! I had it sitting patiently on my TBR pile... but when Audible had a sale I just had to grab it! I'm so happy I did. Though some of the story may have been rather obvious and easy to predict, it was still absolutely enjoyable and I honestly loved it.
This is definitely much more of a gritty romance. Easy focuses on sensitive topics, which many may have trouble stomaching. This story begins with a horribly tragic sexual assault attempt made on Jacqueline. She is saved by an unidentified stranger, one she's never seen before, but is so thankful appeared when he did. When I first started listening I was shocked at what was happening. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to handle the story emotionally. But I was immediately drawn in and eager to see how everything would play out.
Now for the narrator... I wasn't a fan. I'm always hesitant when getting an audio versus reading the physical book because I really put a lot of weight on the narrator. At first listen I wasn't sure I was going to like the audio one bit. Tara Sands' voice just didn't seem right. She came off as sounding much older than a college student and just didn't quite fit the Jacqueline that I had pictured in my head. After listening for a bit I did grow to accept her as a narrator, but she definitely wasn't a favorite of mine.
Having said all of that, I wavered a bit between 4 stars and 5 stars. The narrator is a huge part of my rating of an audio. So for that reason, I can't really give it 5 stars. If I was strictly rating the story by itself, 5 stars would have seemed right. So I'm going to meet halfway and go with 4.5 stars. I really don't have any complaints about the story at all. Though it is gritty and tough to stomach, Webber did an amazing job of touching on such sensitive topics so beautifully. If you like grittier romances, and you don't mind the more sensitive subject matter, you should definitely give this book a try.

I'm so happy you enjoyed Easy! This isn't the first time that I've heard that complaint about the narrator. That is definitely a factor in an audio review. Great review, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI don't think i've come across anyone who doesn't like this book. great review.
ReplyDeleteIt's like we're audio twins these days. Probably doesn't help when we're hitting up all the sales on Audible. :P Great review...seems like this one hit us about the same. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually liked the narrator. ha! funny how everyone is different with narrators. Great story though. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I have actually had this book on my Kindle for a long time and I haven't read it yet. I am going to have to make time soon.
ReplyDeleteI purchased a Kindle version of this book a few months ago but never had the time (and energy) to read it. This book sounds great! I'll probably give this book a try!

ReplyDeleteI loved the book. I don't think I can pay attention if I ever heard an audiobook. My mind has to see the words for it to register. But I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.
