Teaser Tuesday: Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read.
  • Open to a random page.
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author too so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!

Title: Going Vintage
Author: Lindsey Leavitt
Published: March 28, 2013
Publisher: Bloomsbury

When Mallory’s boyfriend, Jeremy, cheats on her with an online girlfriend, Mallory decides the best way to de-Jeremy her life is to de-modernize things too. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in1962, Mallory swears off technology and returns to a simpler time (when boyfriends couldn’t cheat with computer avatars). The List:
1. Run for pep club secretary
2. Host a fancy dinner party/soiree
3. Sew a dress for Homecoming
4. Find a steady
5. Do something dangerous
But simple proves to be crazy-complicated, and the details of the past begin to change Mallory’s present. Add in a too-busy grandmother, a sassy sister, and the cute pep-club president–who just happens to be her ex’s cousin–and soon Mallory begins to wonder if going vintage is going too far.

My Teaser:

"Why don't you start on our paper?"

"You mean your paper," I say.  "I'm not even in philosophy."

"But you're writing it.  So it's ours now."

"I've always wanted to share a paper with a boy!"  I clap my hands.  "Can we name him Hunter?  Hunter the Paper Boy.  Or Boy of Paper, so he's not confused with paperboy paperboys," I explain.  "I'll knit him a sweater, show embarrassing baby pictures to his dates, and scream at his soccer games."

Jeremy stares at me hard.  I love when he gives me that look, like all the staring in the world would never unlock all of my feminine mysteries.  "I don't get you sometimes."

Yes, I cheated this week. This is way more than the two lines that are allowed, but I HAD to include it all so it made sense.  This book is cute so far. :)

  5. It was cute from what I've read so far. I put it aside for some other reads but I hope to get back to it soon. I loved that part, except that it shows how not right for each other they are. :(
