Waiting on Wednesday: Left Drowning by Jessica Park

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: Left Drowning
Author: Jessica Park
Exp. Pub.: July 16, 2013
Publisher: Amazon Childrens Publishing

What does it take to rise from life’s depths, swim against the current, and breathe?

Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

This book is intended for mature audiences due to strong language and sexual content.

Why I'm Waiting: After absolutely loving Jessica Park's last book, Flat-Out Love, I was so excited when I saw this was being released in July.  It's a different genre, being New Adult, and definitely appears to be a much darker and more emotional read than her lighthearted Flat-Out Love was, so I'm super eager to see what Jessica does with this type of story.

  4. I'm excited for this, too, even though it does seem to be a departure from the hilarity that was Flat-Out Love. Hope we both love it!

  9. I think this one's on NetGalley! Or Edelweiss! One of them. I'm interested in this book, but I probably won't read it unless I find it in my local public library. I'm not familiar with the author - but I've heard that her books are great!

Hope you get to read this one soon!
