Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…
Lila McCormick, Echo's best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.
Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.
I'm not a big fan of novellas, but this one I really enjoyed. It was packed full of raw emotion... what more do I need to say? The story of Lila and Lincoln really filled the gap between Pushing the Limits and Dare You To. As far as novellas go, this is a favorite of mine. I'm often left wanting more, yet Crossing the Line left me satisfied and ready to move on to Dare You To.
The story of Lila and Lincoln was such a sweet one. They meant by chance after a tragic event, and from that meeting they kept in touch only through letters. When Lincoln shows up on Lila's doorstep, the chemistry was undeniable. Lincoln, with his own flaws, loves Lila, despite all of hers.
This is a beautiful story that helps tie Pushing the Limits and Dare You To together nicely. Though it's not as raw and troubled as Pushing the Limits and Dare You To, it's more on the sweeter side and equally enjoyable. McGarry is fabulous at portraying such a wide variety of characters. This is a series you don't want to miss.

I agree that Crossing the Line is a great novella! McGarry did such a wonderful job of packing so much emotion and story into such a small space. I'm glad you enjoyed it, too, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI liked this novella, too...and the fact that it was a bit lighter than McGarry's other two books. And yet, it still packed that emotional punch that she's so good at. Glad you enjoyed it, too, Lisa!
