Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…
That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.
Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
Hopeless is proof that when everyone absolutely adores a book, there's probably a very good reason for it. Just ask the almost 60,000 ratings on Goodreads that average a remarkable 4.54 out of 5 stars. PROOF that it's amazing. And it's also proof that I never should have waited this long to read it. Silly me....
"Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies..."
Sky knew very little about her past. She knew she was adopted at the age of 3 after the death of her birth mother, when her father was no longer able to take care of her on his own. She only had sporadic memories of her childhood. She was emotionally detached from everyone in her life, including boyfriends... or better termed hook-ups. Sky's mother despises technology, so Sky was at a loss for all things electric. No TV, no phone, no computer. Sky was also home-schooled her entire life, only attending public school for the first time her senior year of high school.
Sky met Dean Holder by chance and was immediately unable to deny the attraction. Though he was known for his player-like ways, she found herself drawn to him. Sky and Holder's blossoming relationship was one of my favorite parts of this story. Though it did pick up on the quicker side, it was nothing like insta-love. It was so much more than that. They had a strong bond that even I could feel.
The realistic nature of this story was off the charts. I found myself going through almost every emotion imaginable while reading (errr... listening to) this story. The narrator was sensational, provoking endless feelings throughout the entire story. I really enjoyed the flashbacks, where Sky was a young girl. The narrator made those scenes pop, Sky being so naive and so pure as a child. The entire story was performed beautifully.
I have to mention that although the characters are of high school age, some of the scenes in this story may be a bit hard to swallow. Though I think many youngsters will benefit from reading this story, some of it may be a bit much. Some of the scenes, though necessary to tell the story accurately, even made me a bit queasy.
Full of laughs, swooning galore, and tons of tears, Hopeless will leave you reeling long after you've closed the cover. Warning: It's addicting and will have you up all hours of the night, unwilling to put it down. The good news... book 2 is out! Losing Hope, here I come! :)
The Hopeless Series:
I love music. LOVE music. Namely The Avett Brothers, Lumineers, Pink, Eminem. I have eclectic taste? If you have any recommendations, send them my way!
I'm addicted to diet pepsi and could tell you in a taste-test which restaurant it came from. It's a serious addiction, I tell you.
I get stoked whenever I get a message from goodreads saying I have a new friend request...so request me, dangit!

ReplyDeleteLovely review:)
I haven't read this book yet, but it seems good. I thinks I'm going to give the book a try :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this book yet either, but I have heard nothing but fantastic things about it. I'm always a little skeptical about audiobooks, just because I'm such a visual person, but it sounds like this is a good audiobook, so maybe I'll give this a try. It would definitely be nice to have something to listen to in the car other than the radio, and by the radio I mean commercials.

Awesome review. I have had this forever and I still haven't made the time to read it. I am going to have to. You're right, everyone loves it, and I am positive I will to. I did the same thing with The Sea of Tranquility and waited so long to read it, then could have kicked myself for not getting to it sooner.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I want to read both books again. So evocative and emotionally draining, but so damn good. Glad you loved it!
ReplyDeleteI really loved Hopeless too. It was such an amazing read. I'm glad everyone is loving a book that deserves it. Loved reading your review on it. I hope you'll enjoy Losing Hope also. I did. :)
ReplyDeleteOne of the best books ever! :)
